Okay, I admit it. As much as I'm someone who makes a great effort to be mindful of the people, places and things I surround myself with...I still have a few guilty pleasures that I crave and look forward to.
One is something that I just have found recently.
You can put me in the in the checkout aisle and more than likely I will glance over to look at a Star or People magazine and be intrigued by what the latest celeb is up to. However as soon as it's my turn, I will buy my groceries and not think a second thought about it.
However, since I spend almost half of my life on the computer, and web surfing is a great past time hobby for me, I have came across a delicous website for celeb gossip. More than gossip, it's just a bunch of great celeb pics that are updated many times throughout the day with fun stuff written across and at the bottom of them. What's so awful? They seems to be a great source of entertainment for me.
As much as I have questioned why sports is such a huge past time for people, especially men, I have now come to realize it is the equal to the innate search of drama that we as women have that can be fulfilled by Lifetime, the Enquirer or who's doing who on our block or a CBS soap.
As someone who had a grandmother that watched soaps from 12:30-4pm every day for over twenty or thirty years, I vowed I would never waste my life in that manner. And true enough, with work other than cleaning and raising children taking me away from the television a large majority of the day, I don't have much of a choice. However...I have managed to slip in thirty minutes of my now favorite soap in on my lunch break.
To say that I don't savor the experience of sitting down with a great lunch and figuring out who Brooke is going to be with this week, would be a lie.
Many of us have gotten to a point in our lives where we don't like drama. We would rather leave it to the t.v. screen and definitely not have it in our own lives. However, when we dig deep enough, we can all find a hint of drama...regardless of how simple we may try to keep things consciously, and rid ourselves of this animalistic instinct and the titles that are so often given to people who are unable to control their emotions.
I just recently discovered where a news reporter ripped up a story on Paris Hilton's jail release because it was apparently not news worthy in her eyes and the war in Iraq was. She apparently didn't have time for it, however for this public outcry and her own personal drama, she did? There is the "serious" news that is meant to be important, life changing etc. and then there is the news of Paris Hilton. In my opinion, war and all the other "serious stuff" is just as much filled with drama as anything, however for some reason it is deemed worthy as someone who is jailed and learning that they are to be held responsible for their actions regardless of who they are...is not?
So I have came to the conclusion, that it is still a guilty pleasure that as long as we are human, we will continue to participate and play in it...and I've concluded, I'm okay with it.
There will always be a place for a little drama in my life...consciously.
the sweet and the sour...
